Biography
Victor Simonson, Pianist.. Mr. Simonson is a multi-disciplinary composer, conductor and pianist who is comfortable as a collaborator across many genres. He currently serves as Conductor for the 1st National Tour of MJ The Musical and last toured as Associate Conductor for Hamilton And Peggy National Tour. As a composer, Mr. Simonson created the groundbreaking HIPHOPERA, Stomping Grounds that premiered at Glimmerglass Festival in 2017. many of Victor’s original songs and compositions can be heard on Victory (debut self-produced CD, 2008) and his musical arrangements and compositions were featured for the production of Amen Corner, at the Shakespeare Theater in February 2020. Mr. Simonson also collaborated with Lester Lynch (On My Journey Now: Spirituals and Hymns, Pentatone Records). He served as collaborative pianist for Denyce Graves, Angela Brown, Richard Leech, Kate Aldrich and music directed Three Mo’ Tenors. He toured as Associate Conductor of Oprah Winfrey’s The Color Purple and Memphis The Musical. He is set to join the creative team of American Prophet, the original story of Frederick Douglas at Arena Stage in Washington D.C in 2021. He studied voice, piano and composition at the Eastman School of Music and was nominated for the Helen Hayes Award for best musical direction (Three Mo’ Divas) in 2007. He is also a candidate for the Masters of Divinity Degree at Wesley Theological Seminary. He has two children, Victoria Grace and Immanuel Justice who are 10 and 7 and gives God all the praise for the blessings of faith, family and music!
